COLOR CODE READING

Resistor Color Codes Chart
This chart shows you how you can read the resistor color bands. In the case of a 3 or 4 band resistor, the first two band indicate the significant digits and the third indicates the multiplier. In the case of 5 band and 6 band resistors the first three bands indicate the significant digits and the fourth band indicates the multiplier.
Tips for reading resistor codes
- The reading direction might not always be clear. Sometimes the increased space between band 3 and 4 give away the reading direction. Also, the first band is usually the closest to a lead. A gold or silver band (the tolerance) is always the last band.
- It is a good practice to check the manufacturer’s documentation to be sure about the used coding system. Even better is to measure the resistance with a multi-meter. In some cases this might even be the only way to figure out the resistance; for example when the color bands are burnt off.
ADDITIONAL*
To solve for the minimum and maximum range of a resistor using its tolerance, you can try the following formula:
MAXIMUM
Coded Value x the (%) tolerance of the Resistor = Computed Value
Coded Value + Computed Value = Maximum Range
MINIMUM
Coded Value x the (%) tolerance of the Resistor = Computed Value
Coded Value - Computed Value = Minimum Range

Color codes is important in times of finding the value of ohm's, and considering the value of it, for us to be able to know the purpose of each resistor

If it can still be used again after recycling or refurbishing it, does it still remain its capability of its past color code?

The value of each resistors has a specific purpose for some loads, not only for some design, but also for compatibility of usage of any resistor.

As for newbie or a beginner, reading a code of each resistor is difficult. Why? Because it needs some explanation and clarification of a topic and discussion for some computation of a tolerance

Is there a resistor which has a 4 band color code and all are the same?
4 band resistor. The four band color code is the most common variation. These resistors have two bands for the resistance value, one multiplier and one tolerance band. ... This means that the resistance value remains the same, but the tolerance is 20%.

Calculating Resistor Values. For example, a resistor has the following coloured markings; Yellow Violet Red = 4 7 2 = 4 7 x 102 = 4700Ω or 4k7 Ohm. The fourth and fifth bands are used to determine the percentage tolerance of the resistor.

The tolerance band is silver, so we multiply our resistance by 0.1. This means that our resistor's value can be as high as 16.5 Ω or as low as 13.5 Ω. For the third resistor, we'll perform the calculation in an alternative way. ... Take the nominal value and multiply it by 1 + your tolerance, which is (1+0.1).

Hold the resistor with these grouped bands to your left. Always read resistors from left to right. Resistors never start with a metallic band on the left. If you have a resistor with a gold or silver band on one end, you have a 5% or 10% tolerance resistor.

to solve the max. and min. tolerance of a resistor
coded value of the resistor multiply by the tolerance of the resistor(%) = answer
the answer will be added to the coded value of the resistor to get the max. tolerance
subtract it to get the min. tolerance of the resistor.

Where is commonly used the 6 band resistor?
Resistors values can change with temperature. The 6th band represents the temperature coefficient or tempco and is represents the amount the resistance value will change with temperature. It is in units of ppm/degree C.

Burnt Resistor happens when a resistor breaks down, current typically flows through the burnt resistor without any resistance and thereby passes unchecked. Other components in the circuit may become damaged from the excess current flowing through.

The colors brown, red, green, blue, and violet are used as tolerance codes on 5-band resistors only. All 5-band resistors use a colored tolerance band. The blank (20%) “band” is only used with the “4-band” code (3 colored bands + a blank “band”
